Press release

Dastan is pleased to display an installation of works by Zahra Navaei, titled “As It Is”, at Electric Room from September 8 to 13, 2017.
The installation consists of Zahra Navaei’s plant drawings (2015—present), monochrome sketches (2016—present) and abstract landscapes (2016—present). She started her plant drawings after showing her series of portraits (“This or That Person”, December 2015, Dastan’s Basement). More recently, she moved towards creating works based on her immediate environment (i.e. the city) and later on, nature (an inspiration for her abstract landscapes).
The installation, put together in collaboration with Aidin Xankeshipour, tries to both show a mental map of Zahra Navaei as she creates, as well as an ideal perspective into her studio, character and identity.
Zahra Navaei (b. 1983, Tehran, Iran) studied sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran (Tehran, Iran). Her work has been previously exhibited in two solo exhibitions at Dastan’s Basement.
