Dastan's Basement presents the latest series of works by Sina Ghadaksaz. "Sugar and the Sweetness of Evil" opens on Friday, May 2, 2025, and will be on view through Friday, May 23. This is the artist's third solo exhibition with Dastan's Basement, following his 2022 "Sugar in the Basement".

"Sugar and the Sweetness of Evil" further studies "Sugar" as a creature beyond mythological and exaggerated narratives that are usually attributed to it. Sugar is no longer seen as an extraordinary creature; rather, it is an ordinary being with existential and behavioral complexities. The eight paintings, the almond-wood sculpture (with the caption, "From the marzipan dried pear, to a phantom in the diamond district, I saw nothing but magic"), a pile of sugar upon which a video is projected, and various ornamental objects forms the core of this study. Sweetness and evil are an additional pair that accompanies Sugar in this study.

Sina Ghadaksaz (b. 1992, Tabriz) has a BA in Multimedia Art (2015, Tabriz) and an MA in Art Studies (2018, Tabriz). The artist's work has been shown in numerous solo or group exhibitions including the "ART021" fair in Shanghai (2021), "Time Shift" (Jorjani Art Gallery, Tehran, 2017), "A Close View of Far-Field Representation" (Sanati Contemporary Art Museum, Kerman, Iran, 2019), "A Spectacle" (Dastan's Basement, Tehran, 2020), and "Sugar in the Basement" (Dastan's Basement, Tehran, 2022).
