‏ 2+[Deh-Vanak] is pleased to announce the opening of “Four seasons Shah Abbas and His Page Boy,” a solo exhibition by renowned Iranian artist Fereydoun Ave (b. 1945, Tehran). The exhibition marks the first presentation at +2 in the Persian New Year of 1404.
‏The exhibition’s title draws upon the rich imagery of Persian history and mythology, a recurring theme in Ave’s expansive practice. Upon entering the space, visitors encounter three large-scale, two-panel works that resemble ceremonial curtains frozen in the act of being drawn, as if revealing a deeper narrative beneath. Accompanying these are sculptural forms inspired by ancient Persian lion motifs. Their bodies remain stately and strong, yet at the forearms, the volume dissolves into simple, modern geometric shapes, suggesting both endurance and erosion. In the second part of the gallery, six low plinths support quilt-like textile compositions, each made from carefully stitched fragments of fabric. These layered works recall Ave’s “Rostam in the Dead of Winter” series, creating a sense of continuity while exploring memory, warmth, and the domesticity of touch.
‏Fereydoun Ave has played a pivotal role in shaping Iranian contemporary art over the past five decades. His multifaceted career spans across continents and disciplines, and his works have been shown in prominent galleries and held in major collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The British Museum, LACMA, and the Cy Twombly Foundation. “Four seasons Shah Abbas and His Page Boy” continues his long-standing collaboration with Dastan Gallery.
