Dastan presents "Arches of Agony", an exhibition concurrent with its presentation at Frieze LA 2023. "Arches of Agony" is held at Kour Pour Guesthouse in Los Angeles. The show features works by Kolsum Salehi, Atefeh Majidi Nezhad, the duo Abbas Shahsavar & Maryam Ayeen, Asal Peirovi, and Pegah Ahangarani.
The development of an initial idea by artist and curator Mamali Shafahi, "Arches of Agony" portrays a reaction to the long-lasting unrest in Iran as a multi-dimensional dialog: on one side, there are the fading-to-infinity archways and arch imagery in the work of Asal Peirovi and Atefeh Majidi Nezhad, and on the other the depictions of the human body, pain, agony, the weight of the past, and collective memory in the work of Kolsum Salehi, Pegah Ahangarani, Abbass Shahsavar & Maryam Ayin.
