A duo exhibition of works by Atefeh Majidi Nezhad and Sadaf Hesamiyan at Dastan's Basement
Dastan’s Basement is pleased to announce the opening of Sadaf Hesmaiyan and Atefeh Majidi Nezhad’s duo exhibition titled “Revision” on September 16, 2016. The exhibition will be open for public viewing through September 25. This exhibition is part of Dastan’s planning for a number of collaborative projects, including shows by Mimi Amini and Mamali Shafahi, Ghassemi brothers, and a two-part exhibition of works by Lohrasb Bayat and Amir Mohammadzadeh. This is both artists’ first exhibitions at Dastan. In the works presented in this series, both artists in this exhibition have focused on architectural themes and printmaking techniques, along with a phenomenological approach towards their subject matter.
Sadaf Hesmaiyan’s “Laid on Water Series” refers to the historic district of Basher, where the artist lived for many years. Much of the historical sites of the city have been destroyed or are facing destruction. “Their [The fading historic district] being located near the sea, which is constantly there without changing, inspired me to work on this series.” The use of manual printing techniques in “Laid on Water”, adds a new dimension to the work “The use of manual print making can be seen as an effort for recording this invisible event and its reproduction.”
Atefeh Majidinezhad’s monotype prints from her “Iwan of Conditional Configuration” series, are an exploration in the architecture of organized ideology and man-made systems. Through repeating lines and their quality of interaction with the media, the artist has created grand perspectives, referring to being weighed under the hegemony of such structures. The use of monotype printing has caused each piece to be unique, while maintaining the characteristics of manual printing: “Using this technique gave the works an ‘indirect’ aspect that relied on incidence and interaction with the media.”
