Sahand Hesamiyan Iranian, b. 1977

Overview

Sahand Hesamiyan, born in 1977 in Tehran, holds a Bachelor of Sculpture from Tehran University and currently lives and works in Tehran.

Sahand’s practice explores contemporary sculptural directions, which take cues from Islamic and Iranian architecture. His works are primarily interactive. They link science and geometry to the abstract nature of spirituality, which is a reflective attempt to discover the esoteric nature of Iranian culture through the dissection of its architectural form. On many occasions, this goes beyond the mere reflection and repetition of the forms and influences the titles of the pieces and the brief conceptual descriptions often completes them.

Sahand's work has been shown in numerous solos and international group exhibitions. His sculptures are installed in public in several countries, to name a few, Japan, UAE, Iran, and Taiwan. His work is acquired by important private and public collections, including the V&A Museum, Delfina Entrecanales Collection, The Samawi Collection, the Mohammad Afkhami Collection, and the Luciano Benetton Collection.
