Ghasemi Brothers | "Game Room": +2 [Deh - Vanak]
Forthcoming exhibition
Overview
Press release
+2 Gallery proudly presents a solo exhibition of works by Ghasemi Brothers titled "Game Room". The exhibition will be on view from September 19 to October 17, 2025. Ghasemi Brothers' last "solo" exhibition with Dastan was “Darbedar-e Hamishegi” (2023, Parallel Circuit, Tehran).
In “Game Room”, Ghasemi brothers explore the coexistence of the real and the digital world. Their paintings often depict figures reclining or sinking into the couch, holding a “joypad” (video game controller) and staring at the television screen. These figures lack clear outlines and – like other visual elements of the work – almost dissolve into the background. At first glance, the free, green brushstrokes that cover most of the canvas might, as in the brothers’ earlier series, evoke the natural landscape of their hometown, Bandar-e Anzali. Here, however, the neon green of the television screen opens a new reading of the works. It is as if the swirling movement of the brush has erased the boundary between reality and the pixelated realm of the flat screen, presenting a third, fantastical universe that is a fusion of the two.
Ghasemi Brothers have held several solo exhibitions to date, including “Blue Bird” (2024, Zaal Art Gallery, Toronto), “Darbedar-e Hamishegi” (2023, Parallel Circuit Gallery, Tehran), and “Saturn Devours His Children” (2021, Emrooz Gallery, Isfahan). They have also participated in many group exhibitions, such as “Flesh and Salt” (2025, Choom Gallery, Bandar-e Anzali), “Soft Edge of the Blade Vol. 2” (2023, Zaal Art Gallery, Toronto), “Realism” (2023, Dastan Outside Projects, London), and Asia Now Art Fair (2021, presented by +2 Gallery, Paris).
