Dastan’s Basement is pleased to present Corner, a solo exhibition by Afshin Sadipoor, on view from December 6 to December 27, 2024. This marks Sadipoor’s debut solo presentation with Dastan Gallery.
Through Corner, Sadipoor explores the intersection of personal narratives and abstract spaces, transforming everyday observations into puzzle compositions of surfaces. Employing his signature approach, the artist combines flat, vibrant color fields with meticulous linework to create works that oscillate between precision and spontaneity. This body of work reflects Sadipoor’s ongoing engagement with themes of memory, domesticity, and the blurred boundaries between the physical and emotional realms, offering a fresh perspective on contemporary portraiture and spatial relationships.
Afshin Sadipoor (b. 1986, Borujerd, Iran) is a visual artist with degrees in Medicine (Tehran University of Medical Sciences) and Radiation Oncology (Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences). He began his artistic career almost simultaneously with his academic studies in science and has since continued to advance in both fields.
Afshin’s source of inspiration is his own life—when choosing subject matter—and art history, which shapes the development of his techniques. Collaborative projects have played a significant role in his artistic journey so far. He considers collaboration an opportunity for self-exploration and learning from fellow artists. Beginning his career with a focus on painting, Afshin’s practice has since expanded to include installation, where he explores the interplay between space and form. By incorporating sculptural elements next to his predominantly flat, acrylic-based surfaces in painting, he creates dynamic works that bridge two and three-dimensional media.
