Parallel Circuit announces “The Tribal Weave Project,” a solo exhibition of works by Taher Asad-Bakhtiari, opening on September 27th and continuing through the week until October 4th, 2024. This exhibition marks his second collaboration with the Gallery.

Taher Asad Bakhtiari's ‘The Tribal Weave Project' offers a unique scope on how traditional objects of utility can become a visual statement. Through his distinctive approach to weaving techniques and the implication of symbolism along a vibrant choice of color pallet, these handwoven tapestries transcend the functional aspects of design and elevate into the realm of fine arts.

The works showcase bold geometric patterns and intricate textures, inviting the viewer to experience the blend of traditional craft with contemporary aesthetics in a gallery setting. Asad Bakhtiari incorporates a rich narrative with an artistic intention to draw from his Persian heritage and cultural roots.

Taher Asad-Bakhtiari (b. 1982, Tehran, Iran) is an artist who designs as well, his works span tapestries, objects and furniture, and experiences. He splits his time between Tehran, Dubai, and New York.

He is known for his contemporary reinterpretation of traditional hand-woven tribal weaves.

Drawing from his Bakhtiari tribal heritage, he reimagines traditional weaving techniques through his “The Tribal Weave Project”.

In his 'Recovered Barrels' project, he employs sustainable and environmental art by repurposing and upcycling waste. The artist transforms deformative industrial oil barrels by glamorizing each into a highly polished, resin-coated objects. What once served as a tool in a construction site, in a different context, artistically acquires the functionality of a chair.

Asad-Bakhtiari’s work has been exhibited at major cultural events such as the London Design Festival. His designs have been featured in prominent auctions like Christie’s Modern & Contemporary Middle Eastern Art sale in London. He has also been recognized with awards like the 2021 Product Design Award for his collaboration with cc-tapis in Architectural Digest Middle East.
