Dastan's Basement announces “Flow,” a group exhibition of works by Sasan Abri, Mohammadreza Arab Khazaeli, Nasser Bakhshi, Sadra Baniasadi, Amir-Nasr Kamgooyan, Alishia Morassaei, Mina Mohammadi, Mina Mohseni, Hanie Sadri, Shayan Sajadian, and Sofia Yeganeh, opening on February 2, and continuing through February 23, 2024.

The exhibition has been conceived through an approach that relies solely on ‘the image’ as a self-sufficient entity and expression. Each work is presented as an image in the real sense of the word –not just a surface of painting or photography, but rather the moment in which a memory is recorded or the essence of an encounter. An image is so powerful that, when produced, it finds its way into works yet to be created.

We each experience what occurs in and around us and transform those complex experiences into a linguistic form, a semiology. From the outside, this discovery is communicated through images. Moreover, images that are produced influence the production of other subsequent images. The most prominent example is an individual who stands before a natural vista. We receive this image as if we are standing before a painting because human beings often see the world as if through images. From the cave paintings of Lascaux that describe scenes of a hunt to our contemporary outlook, everything, nature itself, is seen through an image, a fixed reference point attached to a stable image.
