Sina Ghadaksaz | "In Basement: A Spectacle": Dastan's Basement
Dastan is pleased to announce Sina Ghadaksaz's solo exhibition titled "In Basement: A Spectacle" at Dastan's Basement. The exhibition will be open for public viewing from February 21 through March 13, 2020. This is the first exhibition of works by Sina Ghadaksaz at Dastan. His work has been previously exhibited at several galleries, including Laleh Art Gallery and Jorjani Art Gallery. Sina Ghadaksaz (b. 1992, Tabriz, Iran) is a multimedia artist based in Tabriz. He studied Multimedia Arts at Tabriz University before completing his MFA in Art Studies at Tabriz University in 2018.
His artistic practice can be divided into two connected parts: Theory and Practice. The first part includes his activities and projects as an art ethnographer and the second part, which as he believes is the main part, includes the process of painting. Ghadaksaz's paintings are associated to his anthropology knowledge and he tries to continue his theoretical approaches in them, not with a conceptual form of art but simply by action of painting and making images. He states: "I have been focused on landscape painting and its capacities to emphasize on the materiality of painting, by this I call them 'things' instead of paintings and making instead of the action of painting."
The works exhibited in the current series have been two years in the making. During this time, it has never been a set predetermined goal but the main issue has been the process of painting. Hence the current exhibition is a generality of a painterly journey that on the one hand, it looks at the use of expanded irony and humour and on the other hand, it explores the material aspects of a painting until it becomes a thing.
Sina Ghadaksaz's "In Basement: A Spectacle" is a starting point on the path that will continue as he collaborates on a larger project titled "Archeology and Art" and along the way, by using a variety of materials, it will make paintings for today's humankind (Post Sapiens).
