Dastan is pleased to announce “My Magic Vandalism”, a presentation by Foozhan Xajeh at Electric Room. The show will be open to public view from April 20 to 25, 2018. The show marks the second part of a projects that the artist has been following based on the city and vandalism, the first part of which was presented as “Vandals under the Bridge” at Tehran’s New Media Society in 2017.
Foozhan Xajeh (b. 1991) is a graduate of textile design from Tehran Art University. Since 2013, she has been working on the city and its layered nature; layers that include elements one observes and reads, but are not necessarily associated with specific meanings. Foozhan Xajeh initially focused on graffiti and later on the concept of vandalism, collecting photographs of writings, paintings, cut-outs, cracks, and signs on the city walls. She creates video and paper collages from the ‘accidents’ pages of newspapers and the photographs she collects, putting them on top of each other like the layers of the city. The current exhibition is an installation comprising of wall paint, hanging and tapestry-like objects and an ambient piece of music (composed by Maral Kazemi). The installation seeks to engage the viewer in its dialogs surrounding both the layered nature and the vagueness of the city.
