Dastan is pleased to announce the opening of Mélodie Hojabr’s solo exhibition titled “Well Come” at Dastan’s Basement. The exhibition will be open for public viewing from January 13 through February 1, 2017. This is Mélodie Hojabr’s first exhibition at Dastan. Her work has been previously featured in two solo exhibitions in France, and several group shows in Europe, Iran and the UAE.
Mélodie Hojabr (b. 1989, Paris, France), a self-thought artist, has developed a personal style that mixes illustration with painting, and derives inspirations from Persian miniature. Her paintings, on one aspect, are story-like, focusing on presenting the viewer with multi-layered and multi-temporal narratives. On the other hand, her precision in executing the works and use of vibrant colors, define her unique style.
Working on this series for over a year, “Well Come” consists of three series of paintings that tell the story of the artist’s life and adventures: growing up in France, coming to Iran, and going back to France again. Mélodie Hojabr started experimenting with painting materials during her third phase, learning how to paint through practice and mostly taking inspirations from resources available on the internet. Creating alter-egos in her works, the paintings try to present an encompassing view of each period to the viewer. Mélodie's paintings are replete with ideas of identity, displacement and immigration. The recurring characters and their interactions with each other and the elements in the paintings, work exactly like those of a novel, going back and forth with events, time and experiences.
