Taher Asad-Bakhtiari

Hostler Burrows x HB381

Dastan is pleased to announce that works by Taher Asad-Bakhtiari are showcased in a group exhibition at Hostler Burrows x HB381 in New York, Los Angeles. Opened on June 27, the show will continue through August 15, 2025.

The main concept of this exhibition is to blur the constructed boundaries -- rooted in 17th-century debates on the limits of the beaux arts -- between art, craft, and design. Reframed as “lost modernism,” as written in the show’s press release, these works aim to “offer a philosophical meditation on objects as vehicles for comfort, utility, desire, and rumination.”

In this regard, Asad-Bakhtiari’s kilim and gabbeh pieces refer to the collective labor of nomadic artisans in Iran and Afghanistan -- a part of art history that remained silent, a modernism that never had the chance to flourish.
