In her diary-like report on Frieze London 2024 for Artlyst, Nico Kos-Earle reflects on her encounter with two works of miniature, one of which is the series by Andisheh Avini, presented at Frieze by Dastan Gallery. She notes that Avini’s work, suspended between Iranian figuration and Western abstraction, challenges the exoticized perceptions of the East by the West. Touching the writer’s heart, the work speaks to her about the neglect of people through exoticization; she also considers Avini's pieces to be a splendid representation of cultural preservation.
