Writing for The New York Times, Roberta Smith delves into the mysterious art enclave of Dimes Square, uncovering the recent pop-up show "I Was Only Dreaming" at 1 Ludlow, organized by Club Rhubarb and curated by artist/dealer Tony Cox.
The exhibition boasts nearly 100 works by over 60 artists, spanning generations and mediums, with a DIY aesthetic and affordable price range. Smith highlights the thematic arrangement across the venue’s three floors, showcasing themes such as myth and religion in the "Renaissance Room," and playful variations on the third floor.
Alongside many Iranian artists, she notes the captivating blend of materials and cultures in Mamali Shafahi's work "Portal."
