Dastan:Outside presents "The Ajoon Tree in New Habitat", a collection of landscape paintings by Amirhossein Akhavan, on Friday April 25, 2025.
"The Ajoon Tree in New Habitat" collection was conceived in the wake of a tumultuous period in the artist's life, when his mind was fully occupied with thoughts and his body infested with mistrust, uncertainty, and fear. He had found himmself in an endless maze with no exit in sight. He decided to take a break and went to a quiet garden in the subtropical region of the Caspian sea. Met with a myriad of visual stimuli, he was unable to distinguish the boundaries that separated forms and colors, foreground and background. Discombobulated, he decided to focus on a single tree - the Ajoon tree.
Amir H. Akhavan studied painting at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. His education includes art residencies with Ron Tomlinson, the New York School of Drawing Painting and Sculpture, the Vermont Studio Center, and extensive collaborative work with Gary Lichtenstein. Amir lives and paints in Tehran. He has held four solo exhibitions with Etemad Gallery (2008, 2009, 2015, 2019) and one solo exhibition with Araan Projects (2017). He has also participated in group exhibitions.
