Maryam Eivazi | "Latent Inhibition": +2

Dastan is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Maryam Eivazi titled “Latent Inhibition” at +2. The exhibition will open on Friday, 30 April, 2021, and will be on display for public viewing until May 21. Her first solo show at +2, this exhibition features acrylic, crayon, oil and conte paintings on linen alongside a number of three-dimensional works created with papier-mâché and acrylic paint.

“Latent Inhibition” captures chaotic moments in which asymmetry, suspension, and circulation of forms and objects on canvas demonstrate the artist’s engagement with the action of painting. Maryam Eivazi’s painterly use of color, rhythm, texture, and form renders the process of painting as a means to come up with new methods and perspectives. Using coincidences that happen during the artist’s studio work, each painting becomes an opportunity through which Maryam Eivazi explores, experiences, and discovers novel angles enabling the beholder to observe commonly-known objects from new perspectives. 

Living and working in Milan, Maryam Eivazi (born. 1980, Zanjan, Iran) is best known for her abstract paintings. Graduating from Tehran’s Faculty of Art and Architecture, Azad University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in painting and continuing her education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in 2012 at the same university, she went to the Academy of Fine Arts (Bologna, Italy) in 2014 to obtain her Master’s in Visual Arts. Maryam Eivazi’s works have been exhibited in a number of solo and group shows in Iran and abroad; most recently in 2019, she participated in the “Sometimes Something’s” exhibition at Matera, the European Capital of Culture in Italy.
