Her first solo exhibition of works at Dastan’s Basement, this presentation features 12 mixed-media paintings and etching on aluminum plates. Her work has been previously featured in a solo exhibition titled “Télàré” at Electric Room and a duo presentation titled “Revision” at Dastan’s Basement.
Sadaf Hesamiyan (b. 1986, Tehran) is a painter and printmaker. She studied Architecture at the Persian Gulf University (Boushehr, Iran) and obtained her master’s degree in Painting from Honar University (Tehran, Iran) in 2015. In her past exhibitions she focused on the architectural heritage of the city of Boushehr whose historical sites have been facing destruction.
“State of Mind” confronts a wider spectrum of the artist’s experiences and is meant to narrate the artist’s personal feelings, thoughts, and perspectives when creating each work. Describing the series, Hesamiyan adds, “The idea of letting my mind fly free by candidly expressing my thoughts became my priority.” The visual coordination of different pieces was not of importance anymore. Instead, the arbitrary organization of glitter, dried flowers, thorns, and lustrous marks refer to the definitive state of mind which the artist was experiencing. With this series, Hesamiyan tries to confront her mental chatters, ordinating various thoughts and emotions whilst creating her works, a practice which she did not acknowledge in previous stages of her career.
