Press release

Dastan is pleased to announce Kimia Kamvari's solo exhibition "Event Horizon" at Dastan's Basement. The exhibition will open for public viewing on October 11, 2019 and will continue through November 1.

Kimia Kamvari (b. 1986, Cologne, Germany) is an Iranian visual artist based in the Basque Country. She is a graduate of Painting from Faculty of Art and Architecture, Azad University, Tehran, and a student of Master in Research and Creation in Art at the UPV-EHU University of the Basque Country, Spain. Her work has been featured in two solo exhibitions, most recently at Cristina Enea Foundation (Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain), and several group exhibitions in Iran and Europe. The current exhibition is her second solo at Dastan, followed by "Apeiron", which was the 23rd project among Electric Room's 50-project program.

Most of the works in this exhibition are part of a continuous series of photos of a geological phenomenon. The sudden collapse of the Earth's surface has prompted the artist to capture these fascinating natural forms. We reach a representation of a somehow terrestrial black hole from a cosmic image of a spore-print from the artist previous series, "Apeiron". The specific installation of this exhibition creates a location/place where science meets fiction. Through the artist's own interfering in her surrounding, the works in "Event Horizon" help us understand the artist's approach toward combining the mere beauty of the Earth with impacts of human activity.
