BoBak Etminani | "Organic Expanses": Dastan+2
Dastan is pleased to announce the opening of Bobak Etminani’s solo painting exhibition “Organic Expanses” at Dastan+2. As Bobak Etminani’s 11th solo exhibition, “Organic Expanses” will be open for public viewing from February 24 through March 15, 2017. Bobak Etminani’s work has also been featured in tens of group shows in Iran, North America, Europe and Asia. A new book on the artist's career will be published and launched during this exhibition by Lajevardi Foundation.
Bobak Etminani (b. 1957, Tehran, Iran), a graduate of California College of the Arts, is an artist with a strong theoretical framework. Etminani has laid out his theories and approaches to painting in several writings, interviews and talks. He has influenced many of Iran’s current generation of successful artists.
On describing his paintings, Etminani writes: “My work is not abstract, for it is about nature. And it is not figurative, either, for it is about the manner of nature’s formation, about the nature of nature.” During his career, he has worked on several series, using a meticulous and analytical approach to substance and content.
“Organic Expanses” is a review of Etminani’s “The Cradle of Time” a performance/installation at Tehran’s No. 6 Gallery. In “The Cradle of Time” each one of these paintings was displayed on the gallery wall for one day, where viewers could examine it using magnifying lenses. All ten of those paintings are presented here. These works were created from 2014 to 2015 and show the artist’s departure from his “Grey” series of paintings. On “Organic Expanses”, the artist writes: “I paint to harmonize my inner self with an ever-expanding force that weaves everything into one being.”
