More than anything Farideh Lashai has a sense of utter humility when facing nature, she knows that she can only “borrow” from nature, never own anything. And it is in this same trend that in her later landscapes when she draws pomegranates, that most iconic fruit of Persian culture denoting love and fertility, she always depicts them lying on the ground, never hanging on trees: the pomegranates that she dares to borrow are the fallen ones, the ones which will soon rot, thus demonstrating an ambiguous relation to desire and love. She wants to stress this process of decay that has begun in nature when the tree has shed its most jubilant fruit, because she has detected this.
