Mamali Shafahi (b. 1982, lives in Paris and Tehran) is a multidisciplinary artist known for immersive, mixed-media installations incorporating sound and light. His works feature enigmatic chimeras that explore cultural diversity and identity, challenging stereotypes while blending fantasy and Iranian heritage. Through optical illusions and fantastical environments, viewers are transported into a balance of wonder and unease, merging magical and terrifying elements. Shafahi has also worked in experimental film and VR, including the docu-fiction Nature Morte (2019), presented at the Palais de Tokyo, and the VR project nerd_funk with Ali Eslami, featured at Het Nieuwe Instituut, the Vancouver Biennale, and IDFA. nerd_funk won the Golden Calf for Best Interactive Film at the Netherlands Film Festival.
