Press release

Dastan is pleased to announce the opening of Nariman Farrokhi’s solo exhibition titled “Black and Yellow” at Dastan’s Basement. The exhibition will be open for public viewing from February 3 through February 19, 2017. This is Nariman Farrokhi’s first solo exhibition at Dastan. His work has been previously featured in a solo exhibition at Maryam Fasihi Harandi Gallery, several group shows, as well as Dastan’s Basement’s booth at Contemporary Istanbul 2015.
Nariman Farrokhi (b. 1985, Tehran, Iran) is a self-taught artist. He mixes what he observes with a hyperactive sense of imagination and rearrangement through the use of simple material and technique. Confined to using only written language and gestures as means of communication, Nariman Farrokhi has used actual texts in many of his past works. This approach has gradually caused him to develop his own visual alphabet, i.e. writing system, that appear like hieroglyphs. Mixing these with more figurative elements in “Yellow/Black”, Nariman has created a collection of A4-sized drawings, using oil and spray paint, that together make a large and immersive piece.
